Showing Up

I show up for Hopkins Schools.

As a five-year member of the Hopkins Legislative Action Coalition, I have worked in partnership with the school board and administration to advocate for legislative policies and funding that have a direct impact on Hopkins families.

  • Stabilize funding for mental health in the schools, so schools and families can rely on consistent and accessible care
  • Determine action items for Association of Metropolitan School Districts ReImagine MN equity initiative as they relate to Hopkins Schools – support and funding for restorative justice training and programs, alternative pathways to teacher licensure, increased funding for English Language Learner programs, attract and retain teachers that reflect the full diversity of our students, increased funding and options for Early Childhood learning
  • Increase funding for special education and safeguard the excellent services Hopkins families enjoy
  • Advocate for increased operating funds while enhancing local control, so districts who know their students best can target funds where they are needed

When my eldest entered kindergarten 11 years ago, I signed up to volunteer in the classroom. That experience helped me connect with his teachers, his classmates, and other parents.

  • Help students achieve literacy goals through the Accelerated Reader program
  • Field trips: science-based fieldwork, Starbase, Minneapolis Institute of Art, MN Landscape Arboretum, Stages Theater, end of year outings
  • Art Adventure, a Minneapolis Institute of Art program that enriches our students learning through bringing art into their classroom
  • Fundraisers and teacher appreciation
  • Helped to build the school garden
  • Journalist for Mock UN exercises

Last year I served on two Vision 2031 focus teams – Vigilant Equity and Authentic Inclusion and ReImagining Gifted and Talented. This work helped me fully grasp the scope of Vision 2031, as well as put my family’s experience with Hopkins Schools into context. It is this deepened understanding that inspired me to run for Hopkins School Board.
